NEXT ARCHITECT
PREV
++ Philip Brooks Maher, son of George Washington Maher and Elizabeth Brooks was born in Kenilworth, Illinois on October 21, 1894 .  After serving in France during WWI he studied architecture at the University of Michigan.  He married Madeleine Michelson and joined his father's firm as a partner in 1922.  Stylistically, Phillip Maher  broke from the Prairie School tradition of his father and  embraced, first, elegant Neo-classicism and later, the more modern Deco.  His work on Michigan Avenue set the character of the street for years to come. He died on September 1,  1981.
