Constructed in 1929 and designed by Architects Holabird and Root, the Art Deco PALMOLIVE BUILDING is 565 feet tall and contains 37 stories.  The Lindbergh Beacon was added in 1930, and served to guide inbound flights to Midway Airport.  The building was originally the corporate headquarters of the Colgate Palmolive Peet Company. It was subsequently converted to residential condominiums in 2001.

The building’s setbacks and height  comply with the 1923 Chicago Zoning Ordinance.  The overall effect of the design is sleak and modern, with fine deco detailing emphasizing its overall style.  Other  1929 Chicago Buildings by Holabird and Root include the Daley News Building, Chicago Motor Club, and the Chicago Board of Trade (completed in 1930).
