The Medinah Athletic Club, designed by Alfred Alschlager, was begun in in 1927 and completed in 1929. It is 45 stories and 471 feet tall. It exhibits an eclectic style with Art Deco references and Assyrian ornament. George Unger's theatrical influences are evident. An onion dome crowns the building. Origianal amenities included a grand ballroom, a swimming pool, a miniature golf course, a dirigible dock, a shooting range, a billiards hall, and a bowling alley. Assyrian inspired bas reliefs circle the building. Designed by George Unger and sculpted by Carl Beil and Leon Hermant, they depict the allegories of Wisdom, Contribution,& Consecration. It is now a hotel.
