ENERGY IN REPOSE
FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF CLEVELAND
CLEVELAND, OHIO
Henry Hering's "ENERGY IN REPOSE' was sculpted in 1923. Located on the south facade of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, the statue is four times life size and weighs three tons. Energy poses, relaxed, on a rock, wearing a tunic or worker's apron, holding a hammer. He is emblematic of the physical energy of Cleveland's heavy industry. Similar symbolism wes employed in Hering's "Pro Patria" at the Indianapolis War Memorial. This work is yet another example of Hering's collaborative teamwork with the Cleveland architectural firm of Walker and Weeks. Hering is also responsibile for the stone allegorical figures of Security and Integrity located on the west facade of the Federal Reserve Bank.
