This full color volume chronologically documents extant figural sculpture in the heart of Chicago. All work is or was within the area bounded by Division Street, Halsted Street, Roosevelt Road/Acsah Bond and the Lakefront. This first volume covers the time period from the Great Chicago Fire and the Columbian Exposition of 1893 through the Burnham Plan and the early years of the Roaring Twenties. Sculptors featured among many include Augustus Saint Gaudens, Henry Hering, Hermon Atkins MacNeil, Carl Beil, Leon Hermant, Edward Kemeys, Amy Aldis Bradley, Otto Machtl, and Philip Martiny. The collection will be of value to both the serious scholar and those of us who love Chicago and its history.
